VIXEN's JANET GARDNER Still Occasionally Works As A Dental Hygienist

VIXEN frontwoman Janet Gardner says that she still works part-time as a dental hygienist in Connecticut when she is not on the road with her bandmates or playing solo shows. "I am [still doing that]," she told "The Five Count" radio show (hear audio below). "Very little, because we've been so busy. But I do. I still have some patients that are, like, 'Hey, you've gotta take care of me.' [Laughs] 'I'm used to you.' So, yeah, I go in when I'm in town and I have some time I can see patients, I go in and take care of 'em. Yeah, I enjoy it. I've gotten to know people. I've seen kids go from little kids to grownups, so I still do that and enjoy it. Yeah, I'll keep doing that too for a while."

Asked if she has ever gotten pulled off the road for somebody's emergency root canal surgery or anything like that, Janet said: "Luckily, nobody I know has ever needed emergency cleaning, so I can book people when I'm around. But the poor dentist I work for has to deal with that all the time. But, luckily, he lives about 20 seconds away from the office, so he can go in and do those emergency root canals and I don't have to hear a thing about it. He's really a cool guy too, and he's so good with me having to take off to do music and stuff like that, 'cause he gets it. He's, like, 'Oh, yeah. You'd be crazy not to. So get out of here. I'll see you when you get back.'"

VIXEN's new live album, "Live Fire", was released last month via Rat Pak Records. The disc features 12 live tracks and was recorded at Chicago's legendary Arcada Theater during the group's successful 2017 tour. In addition to the classic VIXEN songs, the effort also includes a studio version of "You Ought To Know By Now", an all-new studio acoustic version of the hit song "Edge Of A Broken Heart" and a live version of a previously unreleased track called "Big Brother".

VIXEN's current lineup features three of the members that recorded the band's 1988 self-titled debut and its follow-up, 1990's "Rev It Up".
